HANED KADUNUD (The Lost Geese) Others were given other chores, the farmhands were given important chores. I was given a poor chore; to guard the geese, to watch over the hens. I drove the geese to the waters, I drove the hens to the golden grove. A wind came from another land, lightning struck from the north, it drove my geese away from the waters, it drove my hens away from the golden grove. I went home in with a heavy heart, a heavy heart, a sorrowed tongue: ‘Oh, my gentle mother dear, mother, sweet as honey. Make me bread to last a day, a loaf to last me two months, I will go looking for the geese!’ Then I journeyed quite a way, quite a way, across the land. Who was coming towards me, who was moving towards me? Coming towards me were plenty of ploughmen, a hundred assarters. ‘Have you seen my geese?’ ‘What were these geese like?’ ‘They were golden-naped, they were silver-crowned.’ ‘We have neither seen nor heard them.’ Again I journeyed quite a way, quite a way, across the land. Who was coming towards me, who was moving towards me? Towards me came many men, many men, lots of lads. Four young women were coming towards me, three of them were brides, ‘Have you seen my geese?’ ‘What were these geese like?’ ‘They were golden-naped, they were silver-crowned.’ ‘They were at Mõõlu manor. Go there, you will get them back!’ I have journeyed to Mõõlu manor. A seat of goose bones is brought to me. I am given goose meat to eat, I am given goose blood to drink.

KUUD KUULAMA (To Listen to the Moon) Where are we going? We are going towards the night. Towards the night, towards the day, towards the deepest darkness. Let us go to to listen to the moon, to lighten the day, to wonder at the sunset. Is the moon wrapped in a cloak, is the day crowned with a wreath, does the sunset carry beads of silver? The moon is not wrapped in a cloak, he day is not crowned with a wreath, the sunset carries no beads of silver. The moon, it plays with beads, the day plays with pearls, the sunset plays with beads of silver.

Kurb laulik 03:58
KURB LAULIK (The Sad Songster) He who hears me sing will think all is well, he will believe that my days are filled with joy. I sing through my sorrows, I sing through my mourning heart. Tears stream from my eyes to my chest, from my chest to my heart, from my heart to my knees, from my knees to my feet, from my feet to my toes, from my toes they flow to the ground. Then the village herd will get to drink, the parish foals will get to drink, the manor horses will get to drink.

UNE MEELES (In the Hold of a Dream) Come in, sleep, through the door. Climb in through the window. Move to the child’s cradle, caress eyebrows, fall on eyes. Come sleep, come sleep. Across the sea, through the forest. Bring dreams.

about

The presiding spirit of “Muunduja” (Shifter) is a state of being between states, the warping of time’s arrow using sound. Maarja Nuut & Ruum’s music often lures us into unimagined conversations with elements of our psychic selves that we may have otherwise forgotten. Whether the listener reacts through out-of-body experiences, glitches in cerebral programming, or old fashioned magic is immaterial. We experience the phenomena presented to us, and we take new insights from them.
Essentially the recording of two musicians’ inner travels, “Muunduja” is a release that relies heavily on gesture and spirit. Rich, rounded and expertly arranged, the music is also presented as a series of contrasts, heavy on shifts of tone, texture and mood.
